Anyone have any experience of pen-pals for kids?

I've set my kids (13 &11 yo) ten summer challenges and as they are getting through them at quite a pace, I thought I ask them to obtain a pen-pal or set up a blog. Anyone any ideas what's the safest way to do this please?

Thanks.

I had a penpal when I was 11 and I really loved learning about a different country and culture. I've found this site that looks quite good, or why not approach a friend with family abroad to see if they know a child to exchange with? At least then you would have control over at least part of the interaction/

Good Luck and I love the sound of the 10 summer challenges, how creative!

What a great idea. I used to love having a pen-pal when I was younger. A great way to find out how other young people live in different countries!

Good luck in finding one.

I met my pen friend on holiday when we were 7. She lived in Kent and I was in Birmingham. We wrote letters for years and then emails after that.

We recently met up with our respective families for lunch halfway between our towns. Pen friends are the very best as its difficult to fall out with someone you rarely speak to! :-)
