Sports at school

The government have this week announced changes to the amount of PE kids have to do at school. Do you think children should have a compulsary 2 hours of exercise per week?

Answers:

When there are 24 hours in the day, 2 hours a week is a good start in my opinion!

I'd be happy for my kids to do even more to be honest. I loved PE as a kid especially at senior school when we got to learn more sports like tennis and squash.

I do think it should be compulsary. 2 hours a week out of a whole school week is not that much. My children are very active outwith school and they love PE. However, I know that some children may not be that active for whatever reason and should be given this opportunity.

I think it should be compulsory and I thought most Schools had at least 2 hours of PE scheduled weekly, anyway? I know my Daughter's School do 3 days a week (1 hr each session) as standard mixing indoor/outdoor PE with other team sports such as football, netball, hockey etc.

We went to a kids party this weekend and I was actually shocked at the number of children who were inactive and overweight/obese. The active kids who ran around happily on the huge inflatables had a great time and the larger kids would run around for maybe a minute then have to sit down as they were sweating heavily and out of breath. The age ranges of these children were 5 -7 years old.

I'd have been horrified if that was my child and probably ashamed if I'm honest. 2 hours a week for PE is nothing at all and should be seen as the norm and not a chore. It really worries me the mentality of some people.

I think it's a tough one because some kids will be very active out of school whilst some won't be active at all. So I think we should be encouraging them to do more so that all children are doing a minimum of 2 hours.

When I was a kid I did an hour in school and at least 4hrs out of school in the form of swimming, gym, dancing, horseriding etc so I was very active. I wouldn't have minded doing more PE in school either!
