When we were invited to visit the New Forest recently, we jumped at the chance, we all needed a break and there’s no better place to visit. The New Forest is easily accessible from London and the South East and close to the M27.
The New Forest is an area in the South of England which includes a large of area of beautiful unenclosed pasture land, heathland and stunning forest. The New Forest is situated on the borders of Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset, there are many villages dotted around the area, and several small towns in the Forest and around its edges.
We headed to the village of Brockenhurst which is the largest village in the New Forest and close by to the city of Southampton (13 miles away) and Bournemouth (15 miles away).
We were invited to visit the beautiful Balmer Lawn Hotel very close by to Brockenhurst in the heart of the stunning New Forest National Park. The Balmer Lawn Hotel is a classic 19th-century country house hotel which was originally a hunting lodge, this classic hotel is a 3-minute drive from Brockenhurst train station and overlooks beautiful green pasture land. Oozing character and charm, the hotel boasts individually designed en-suite rooms, a pool, tennis courts, sauna and spa facilities.
The lovely bedrooms and suites range in style from traditional to contemporary, but all include flat-screen TVs and free WiFi. Some rooms also have balconies, 4-poster beds, Bose sound systems, stocked mini-fridges and heated floors.
When we arrived at the Balmer Lawn Hotel, we were greeted with such cheerful staff and even our Jack Russell, Tottie was checked in to the accommodation. If you have a dog, they will feel right at home at this super friendly hotel, which has three acres of grounds to explore, gardens in which to play and direct access to the stunning New Forest.
“A perfect place for Families including all the Pooches!“
When we all arrived at the hotel we checked into our family room which contained a large double bed and bunk beds for children. We quickly changed into our swimming cosies and jumped into the pool after a long hot drive. The eight year old couldn’t have been happy! The facilities at the Balmer Lawn Hotel are really exceptional, not only are you surrounded by stunning countryside in the heart of the forest with ponies grazing on every corner, but the hotel has everything you could wish for to enjoy the perfect family time.
After swimming, we headed into the gardens of the hotel which are large and luxurious and then dinner in the restaurant for our family dinner.
The restaurant has a terrace and serves a seasonal menu of local and international cuisine. We had a traditional 3 course dinner of prawn cocktail, steak and chips and sticky toffee pudding. The 8 year old was very pleased with her Spaghetti Bolognaise, garlic bread and Ice Cream Sundae – lovely food for the whole family!
Being at the Balmer Lawn was very calming and gave us the opportunity to unwind as a family without the pressures of household chores, washing, cleaning and homework! We sat in the bar area sipping some after dinner cocktails and played board-games – the perfect finish to a truly relaxing day.
The next day we had a lovely breakfast, a range of pastries, cereals, fruit and fruit juices alongside traditional a traditional hot cooked breakfast – a fantastic breakfast to keep our energies up for playing tennis, swimming and relaxing in the Spa.
A stay at the Balmer Lawn Hotel is the perfect place to relax and enjoy time as a family whilst being in the perfect position to discover the wonderful New Forest!
