Help your older newborn baby and you get a good night’s sleep with the specially-designed Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe, suitable for babies 14 to 22 pounds.
Key features of the product
Many newborns like the comfort of being swaddled in order to fall asleep and stay asleep, as they’re used to being snug in the womb – and it also prevents them from waking themselves up by flailing their arms while asleep.
The Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe creates a ‘ready-made’ swaddle to wrap baby in snuggly. It uses a ‘wing’ design and velcro fasteners that secures the swaddle in place so it can’t come undone. It is 1.8 Tog cotton so can be used in summer.
What I liked about the product
Until now I’ve been wrapping my baby up in a blanket – a cheap and easy swaddling technique that you don’t need a fancy product for. Now my baby is getting too big to be swaddled effectively in a blanket and is strong enough to wiggle out of it and wake herself up, but I can’t get her to sleep without being swaddled. That’s why I tried the large-sized SwaddleMe hoping it would do the trick.
Once I followed the instructions, it was fairly easy to use and the large velcro fasteners held the swaddle in place tightly meaning that despite her struggles to free herself, my daughter remained wrapped up and was able to fall asleep fairly easily. She was also prevented from escaping out of the swaddle as easily during the night compared with the blanket swaddle, meaning she slept for longer.
Because the velcro on the SwaddleMe stops the blanket from coming loose, I also don’t worry that she could accidently cover her face with it as I do with a regular swaddle blanket when it comes undone. The size was good, with more room at the bottom than a blanket swaddle for her to kick her feet about as older babies like to do. The cotton material and colour were nice too!
What I didn’t like
My daughter constantly struggles when I am trying to swaddle her, and because of the design it’s difficult to fasten all the flaps of material and velcro in place when she is wiggling about, so it can be more frustrating to get her in the SwaddleMe compared to a regular blanket swaddle. It’s for this reason my husband doesn’t like to use it.
Also, despite my best efforts to fasten the SwaddleMe tightly with the velcro, sometimes my daughter still can work her arms out of it during the night and wake herself up just like she was doing with the regular blanket, which I found surprising and a bit of a disappointment, so it’s a bit hit-and-miss!
Is it good value for money?
It’s priced decently enough compared to some other brands of swaddles, which can be quite expensive, although it is more expensive than a blanket swaddle – so I think it’s worth the money if the blanket option doesn’t work well for you. It is also the right price for a useful and unique gift.
