Meal plan – cool and comforting

Even in the heat we sometimes crave the comfort of cooler day dishes –  this is not as strange as we might think, as foods that are hot in spice or temperature may actually cool the body down by increasing blood circulation and perspiration. This week’s meal plan brings together family favourite recipes, and because they are familiar, it means we can cook them really quickly each evening.

This week’s family meal planner includes shepherd’s pie, cheese omelette, vegetable pasta bake, chicken korma curry and fisherman’s pie.   • Shepherd’s pie: Nobody will turn down a yummy shepherd’s pie – even on a sunny evening. Replace the lamb with beef or even turkey if on a budget. Tip: Double the amount of potatoes, boil and mash the night before. Use for the shepherd’s pie and the fish pie later on in the week. Approx price: £5.18 or just £1.30 per portion.
