Isn’t it difficult to know what meals to plan when the weather is so unpredictable? This week’s meal plan is a compilation of delicious, healthy recipes which can be prepared quickly or even ahead and eaten on hot, wet or windy days and of course don’t cost the earth – enjoy!
This week’s family meal planner includes meatballs in tomato sauce, Spanish rice with tuna, chickpea burgers, sweet and sour turkey puffs and salmon fish cakes.
Home-made meatballs in tomato sauce: Why not double the recipe and freeze for days when you don’t want to cook? Organising your cooking can free up your time, and reduce energy bills.
Spanish rice with tuna: Tuna is a cheap source of protein and healthy oil, both needed for a healthy brain! Give your little and big ones the best possible chance with good nutritional food.
Chickpea burgers with warm pitta bread and tomato chutney: Delicious, great value food at its best. If the children prefer baps, serve in baps – but don’t compromise on the burger!
Sweet and sour turkey/chicken puffs: A special takeaway treat for the family – or perhaps ‘fake-away’ as they are made at home, which is always superior and much cheaper.
Salmon fish cakes: Everyone’s favourite! Cook the potatoes the night before so that you don’t waste time waiting for them to cool. Use fresh salmon, white fish or tinned tuna if you prefer, and serve with lots of salad.

Sian is a home economist with over 25 years’ experience as a secondary school teacher and now running her own private cookery school with a focus on meal planning. After years of seeing people struggling to provide healthy meals everyday for their families, she created her own meal planning system at Siansplan.com.
All the meals included in our weekly family meal planners are child friendly and provide nutrients from each of the food groups (proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals).
Every week, Sian from Siansplan.com puts together five quick and easy recipes for our week’s family meal planner. You can choose to make them on whichever day of the week suits you best. She also puts together a shopping list that you can download for free and print out to take with you to the supermarket.
