chocolate steam puddingA special treat, this lovely light chocolate steam pudding can be made in advance and then heated up again when you want.  Reheat the individual puddings for 40 seconds or for a large pudding, around 1 minute 20 second in the microwave.

  • 170 g self raising flour (sieved)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 55 g drinking chocolate or cocoa
  • 225 g butter or Flora green
  • 225 g caster sugar
  • 4 medium eggs (beaten)
  • 225 g dark cooking chocolate
  • 300 ml cream


Oven Temperature: 325F – 160C – Gas Mark 3 – Moderate

  • Beat all ingredients (except cooking chocolate and cream) in a bowl until soft and creamy.
  • ¾ fill a greased 2lb pudding bowl with the mixture and cover with cling film and foil
  • Steam in a sacuepan of water with lid for 3 hours
  • Check the level of water 2-3 times
  • Alternatively divide mixture between 8-10 greased ramekins
  • Place in a dish with 1/2 filled with water
  • Cover container with foil and steam in oven for approx 45 -50 minutes at 160c or until cooked
  • Chocolate Sauce – melt chocolate and cream in a saucepan or a microwave, bring to boil and stir very well
  • Remove puddings from dishes, turn upside down and pour over chocolate sauce, serve
