Cranberry sauce

Cranberry sauceLeaving out the port, this recipe is much better value than buying ready-made. The flavour can’t be equalled and the recipe couldn’t be easier. Give it a try!

  • 300g fresh cranberries
  • 1 small stick cinnamon (snapped in half)
  • 1 tablespoon port
  • 1 orange (finely grated and juiced)
  • 140g sugar
  • 100ml water


  • Place cranberries, water, cinnamon, orange juice and zest in a saucepan
  • Bring to the boil and simmer uncovered until berries begin to pop and soften
  • Stir in sugar and port
  • Taste and add more sugar if required (or more port)
  • Remove cinnamon sticks and allow the sauce to cool before serving
  • It will thicken as it cools
  • Sterilise jars or make ahead and freeze
  • Use as required
  • Serve with traditional roast turkey.
