MyFamilyClub Recipes – Cumberland Pie


The Cumberland Pie which has a breadcrumb topping is very similar to the Cottage Pie so is very easy eating for children, teenagers and seniors. This recipe uses leftover beef from the Sunday roast.

Cumberland Pie Lead Feat


  • 1 onion (peeled and diced)
  • 2 carrots (peel and dice)
  • 25 g bread crumbs
  • 50 g cheese (optional)
  • 250 g mashed potatoes
  • 100 g peas
  • 500 ml gravy
  • 450 g beef (leftover from Sunday lunch)


  • Oven Temperature: 350ºF – 180ºC – Gas Mark 4 – Moderate
  • Cook carrots preferably by steaming or boiling
  • Fry onions add peas. Cook until onions are soft. Place beef in a food processor and blitz for a few minutes
  • Add carrots to gravy, beef, onions and peas
  • Stir
  • Place in earthenware pie dish, top with mashed potato, sprinkle with cheese and breadcrumbs
  • Bake in the pre-heated oven for 15 – 20 minutes until piping hot
