Consumers are apparently more confident than ever that interest rates - which are at a record low of 0.5% - are going to remain low, meaning paying off the house is cheap as ever.

So a lower monthly payment means a little more in the pot, and many of us are using it to take a break from the daily grind, research by Liberum shows.

Analyst Simon Irwin said: "With all the gloom and misery of the debt crisis, it's great to see that British people have not given up on enjoying themselves and are still enjoying the small niceties of life such as their local."
