If you've got teenagers planning gap years this summer you may want to point them in the direction of Queensland, Australia.
Not only is it, obviously, a beautiful part of the world and a popular destination for travelling teens, but there's also a canny money-saving opportunity hidden in there too - with Queensland Rail Travel offering travellers with hostel or backpacker cards as much as 40% off ticket prices for its long-distance journeys!
If you've been helping them plan - and most likely pay for - their trip, you'll know all about how expensive a gap year can be. These discounts offer a great opportunity to shave the costs without compromising on the overall 'year-out' experience.
The organisation hopes that the offer will boost tourist numbers heading to the Australian state.
A spokesman said the fares were ideal for teenagers wanting to visit as many places as possible during their travels along Australia's east coast.
Queensland Rail Travel general manager Max Kruse said: "Backpackers travel to several different locations up the east coast and this new offer gives them the flexibility of being able to move from point-to-point in a quick and convenient way.
"The 40% off fares are available for international visitors who know when they want to travel and where they want to go.
"Queensland Rail Travel's network provides the gateway to all the tourism hotspots including the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Fraser Coast, the Whitsundays, Townsville and Cairns."
Before they set off on their travels, however, it would be a good idea for both of you to have a look at this article on gap year costs.
