The wide range of train tickets and travel cards available from rail companies can confuse the best of us, making it difficult to work out which is the most effective means of getting the cheapest rail tickets.
But a new app launched by National Rail Enquiries might help cash-strapped families to negotiate the often complicated train ticketing system more effectively, helping to plan their journeys better and cut down their daily spend on commuting.
Users of phones with iPhone and Android operating systems will be able to access the free app, which will provide live train arrival and departure information.
As well as a real-time journey planner, news about disruptions to services will be offered through the new application.
National Rail Enquiries chief executive Chris Scoggins commented: "Development and innovation are at the forefront of all we do at National Rail Enquiries, and we are confident that this app will help the growing number of smartphone users to quickly and easily access up-to-date information about train services while on the move."
