food receiptIt appears that as families, we are spending less and less money on food as prices in the shops continue to rise.

But all is not lost. Despite food costs continually going up, thankfully there are plenty of easy ways to save money on your weekly shop.

According to the Institute of Fiscal Studies, household spending fell by 5% between 2008 and the beginning of 2009, and has not yet returned to past levels.

As well as food, it seems parents are also spending less money on holidays, alcohol and eating out, the findings show.

Younger households, with all people under the age of 35, have reduced their outgoings the fastest, while those aged over 64 seem the least willing to change their spending habits.
