thermostatAlongside the costs of feeding the family, budgeting for energy bills during the chilly winter months is, of course, another key priority.

Luckily, parents are among those who could now receive new support through the launch of the new Plug the Debt campaign by Consumer Focus and Citizens Advice.

Figures released by the campaign group, which also features organisations like Age UK and Ofgem, show that around 700,000 gas customers in the UK currently face energy supplier debts. This figure rises to 850,000 among electricity customers.

As a result, the campaign is designed to support those who might struggle to pay their energy bills this winter.

Mike O'Connor, chief executive of Consumer Focus, said: "We want people to know that help is out there. Your supplier has to help you if you have problems affording your bills and there are discounts and grants available to help you lower your costs."
