With tropical storm Ernesto heading for Britain, it’s no wonder that online searches for fans have decreased and wellies and waterproof jackets have increased. Now that the heatwave has come to an end in the UK, the number of online searches for fans has decreased by 1,450%. Surprisingly though, it’s not umbrellas that Britons are searching for.
Using Google Trends, the team at www.myvouchercodes.co.uk/ were able to determine the top items that Britons have been searching for online since the rain returned. The top searches for surviving the rain were found to be:
- Wellies – 185% (search increase from 23rd July to 9th August)
- Waterproof jacket – 132%
- Blankets – 130%
- Coat – 122%
- Wood burner stove – 100%
- Umbrellas – 45%
Anders Nilsson, spokesperson at www.myvouchercodes.co.uk/ commented:
“It’s interesting to see the comparison in the number of searches from the hottest day of the year, recorded on the 23rd July, to the slightly cooler temperatures now, and people aren’t holding back with stocking up on their wet weather gear, as they wave goodbye to the extended heatwave. What’s more, it’s not umbrellas that Britons are mostly searching for, but wellies and waterproof jackets, which could help them through what’s left of festival season.
“With the change in weather, it could be worth people getting online now to get the best deals before the autumn season hits. Many retailers will have end of season sales, and you could be getting the pick of the best stock for the autumn and winter season. Be sure to shop around and use a discount or offer to save some pennies, especially as it won’t be long until many of us are turning the heating back on.”
