If you're still counting the cost of your Christmas spending you may currently be thinking that a family holiday this year is out of your reach.
However, Cheapflights.co.uk has put together a list of its top cheap and cheerful destinations in a move which could still realistically see you reaching for the suncream in 2012. Thank God!
Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam actually tops the list, which sought to work out how affordable a destination is based on factors such as flights, weather and how well the local currency is performing - perfect information for families.
Havana in Cuba and Marrakech in Morocco followed. Both are destinations which would be great if you're wanting to take the kids on a far-flung jaunt which'll offer as much culture and adventure as it does sun.
The list helps remind families that holidays shouldn't cost the earth provided we research our trips and pick the right destination.
Hugo Burge, CEO for Cheapflights Media, said: "Are you fed up of reading gloomy headlines? So are we. We know that UK consumers are cutting back elsewhere to save up for a holiday.... We have some great cheap and cheerful destinations and above all the widest range of cheap flight deals to help you escape. Click your mouse and grab your bucket and spade to take a stand for holiday cheer."
The top five is completed with Hanoi in Vietnam and Douala in Cameroon. Cheapflights says that the "incredibly low" ground costs of such long-haul destinations led to them dominating the list.
