”Staycations” becoming more common

We all know how expensive family holidays can be so perhaps you might not be that surprised to learn that an increasing number of families are opting to take 'staycations' - breaks in the UK - rather than fly abroad during the school holidays.

This has been backed up by the Association of Train Operating Companies (Atoc) reporting a substantial increase in the number of people visiting UK seaside resorts and beauty spots by train, with passenger numbers on some small rural branch lines almost doubling in recent years.

Given the amount of money canny families are saving by staying at home during the holidays, it is likely that more and more of us will opt to do so in the future. Holidaying closer to home can be just as enjoyable an experience as jetting off to foreign climes, with the UK bustlling with fun and new activities for those of all ages.

Although rail fares are sadly on the increase, shrewd parents can save a fortune by booking family tickets and buying them well in advance, for a far more friendly rate!

Atoc revealed that advance sale tickets have doubled since 2007, with a million now bought every week as more and more of us look to safe up the pennies for the more important issue of the actual trip.
