Hard-hit parents are looking for discounts and cost-cutting campaigns wherever they can find them at present, in order to beat high inflation rates.
And a new, first-of-its-kind scheme from supermarket giant Tesco could offer some support to those who have had to reduce their budgets due to weak pay growth and employment fears.
The retailer's latest promotion will provide people with a 10p discount on each litre of fuel they purchase if they also spend a sum of £60 on goods in store.
Commenting on the move, Tesco UK chief Richard Brasher said: "We know families are feeling the pinch in these tough times so I'm pleased we can offer customers extra value at the pumps."
In recent months, Tesco has aimed to attract shoppers by running its Price Drop campaign. The scheme has seen the prices of hundreds of products slashed, in order to ease the financial squeeze on consumers.
