How to get the cheapest deal on washing machines


Marc LockleyDo you ever buy a product only to wander down the road and see it cheaper elsewhere? Having seen differences of up to 50% on products, I know this can be an expensive oversight. In this column I’ll be bringing you regular updates with the best prices available on popular products.

This week: Best prices on washing machines, where I found a price difference of £140 on one model! Don´t forget that with a great washer should always be paired with one of the Condenser Tumble Dryers.

Washing machines under £250

The Indesit IWD71250 washing machine has an energy efficiency rating of A. It has an eco-time option for lightly soiled clothes, saving time and energy. I have seen this machine priced as much as £310, however Appliances Direct are selling it at £201.97 and you can avoid delivery charges if you take advantage of their website offer to pay £1 for a month’s trial of Which? Appliances Online are next best at £222.

The Beko WMB81241LW washing machine has a very generous 8kg drum with an energy rating of A+, 16 programmes including a half-load setting and a delay timer. Having seen the product for as much as £290 in a major store, it was good to see Pixmania offering it at £228.90 including delivery, with Currys a close second for ten pence more.

The Zanussi ZWH6140P washing machine has an A++ energy rating and 21 programmes to choose from including ‘easy iron’ and ‘blanket’ wash. It can be found for as much as £330, however if you enter the code ‘LDRY249’ on the Currys website you can snap it up for £238.50, though the code only works until 18 April. Electrical 123 are next best at £259.99.

Washing machines under £300

The Hotpoint WMPF742P is a top 10 Which? best buy, with it’s A++ energy rating. It also has a 40 degrees baby-clothes wash and an anti-allergy program.  This machine has cost as much as £439.99 in the past, however today has tumbled to a more reasonable £279.99 with Ultimate Appliances and £284 with Whitebox. Currys and John Lewis are priced at £319.

Washing machines under £400

In my school days an A-grade was top marks, however the Bosch WAQ28460GB has an energy rating of A+++, meaning it’s 30% more efficient than an A-rated washer, gaining a place in Which’s? top 10. The price tag is an eye-watering £519 with one major retailer. However if that price leaves you in a spin, Currys headline price is £419, but use the code LDRY249 (expiry: 18 April) to bring the price down to £377.10 and you gain a further £50 cash-back via Bosch in the form of a pre-paid Visa card. RGB Direct are next best at £398 in-store and £419 online, but you also get the £50 from Bosch. To find reviews on different products visit Reviews Field.
