christmas events for children ice skatingSix whole weeks of celebration for Edinburgh’s Christmas start on 29 November at 5.15pm, with the Light Night family event. The season’s events will be centred around the Princess Street Gardens, where you’ll also find an outdoor ice rink (0845 225 5121).

There will be carols and crafts a-plenty at the Warrenpoint Yuletide Fayre, when the stalls will be tempting you with local goodies. A carol service and music from a brass band and school choirs will add to the atmosphere in Warrenpoint Park. 12.00-6pm (028 4175 3262).

Children can enjoy all the animals plus entertainers, story telling and more. Adults £5.50, children £4.50 (01625 374400).

Adults only £1.50 and under 16s go free at the Paxton House Christmas Cracker event on 24-25 November. Visitors to the Georgian mansion in Berwick-upon Tweed will find craft stalls, Christmas gift ideas and a special appearance from the red-suited one (01289 386291).

Check out Santa’s helpers at Aberdare’s reindeer parade on 8 December from 10am-reindeers christmas events for children4pm. Musical performances, children’s entertainment and a funfair are just some of the additional activities on offer for the family (01443 424123).

The annual Carols in the Wood is being held on 16 December at the magnificent Newlands Tree Cathedral in Milton Keynes at 4pm, where singers will have the accompaniment of a youth brass band (01908 233600).

Great Yarmouth have a whole programme of festive family events, beginning with the official switching-on of the lights on 28 November and including a themed fayre from 30 November – 2 December, a lantern parade on 5 December and fireworks on 12 December (01493 745828).

Tickle your taste buds on the North Quay Parade at the Padstow Christmas Festival on 7-9 December. There will be chef demonstrations, a Christmas market featuring the best of local food and drink, carols and even a Santa fun run to enjoy (01841 533449).

It’s the Rochester Dickensian Christmas Festival on the weekend of 1-2 December, when the literary legend will be much in evidence, joined by a variety of street entertainers and festive cheer with a Victorian theme (01634 338141).
