Set in 35-acres of Country Estate, Hengar Manor is located close to the North Cornish coast and Bodmin Moor and boasts an impressive selection of cosy holiday cottages, bungalows, apartments, villas, caravans, waterside cabins, luxury holiday cottages.
There is an opportunity to stay in the manor house itself.
With three children aged 10, 8 and 5, thinking of ways to keep them all entertained without copious amounts of moaning was my biggest challenge looking at resorts for May Half Term and I have to say that Hengar Manor provided more than enough entertainment to keep my brood happy, active and entertained.
Go Active Breaks on your doorstep
The children had a fabulous time with the range of activities available by Go Active Breaks. My eldest son pretty much had an archery lesson every day, giving him an incredible opportunity to learn something new and develop over the course of the holiday with lots of encouragement from the teacher.
There are a range of activities available, broken down into age ranges and clearly displayed each morning on a big board outside reception for easy access to ‘what’s on’. Booking is done via reception and a minimum of an hour before the activity starts. This is important, as some activities need a minimum number of children to operate, so don’t leave it to the last minute like we did and learned the hard way with a crying 5-year old.
The activities are a really great way for the kids to make friends but also give parents or grandparents a little bit of ‘me time’. There is an on-site spa offering lots of lovely treatments and is the perfect treat whilst your little and big ones are occupied.
I had the pedicure and a back massage, it was heavenly. Such a friendly lady doing the treatments, really made me feel at ease and respected my need for silence at certain times which you find many therapists continuing talking. Really professional and warm staff at Hengar Manor Spa. You can find a range of treatments and prices listed here.
Hengar Manor boasts four beautiful fishing lakes which are always well stocked, so be sure to pack any fishing gear to you can take advantage of the opportunity to fish.
There is a shop on-site should you need bait, it is also a mini market so lots of food and essentials in case you’ve forgotten anything.
For a big shop, you can head into nearby Camelford where there is a Co-Op and Bodmin also has food stores.
- Body Zorbs
- Cross bow
- Go Quest
- Disc Golf
On top of that there are lots of activities around den building, robin hood, cowboy games etc for the little ones, these change so be sure to check out the timetable and prices online.
Evening entertainment for all the family
By the time the day draws to a close and evening descends, you’d think the kids would be shattered but no! there is always something going on at Hengar Manor which is why it’s such a brilliant destination. Come evening time, there is live entertainment for all the family. It’s a wonderful sight watching all the adults sitting around resting whilst the kids dance their hearts out on the dance floor with a mixture of games and popular music. There’s even bingo for the adults whilst the children engage in colouring competitions.
Hengar Manor has their ‘live’ mascot called The Sporty Fox and he’s a big hit with the kids. The magic show was an absolute scream with plenty of jokes than only the adults would get. Every single child was laughing and engaging with the performer.
Friendly and helpful staff
The staff at Hengar Manor were friendly and incredibly helpful. There was always someone available when needed and there were no delays in fixing any of the issues when highlighted. The staff running the activities were really great with the children and always patient and inclusive of all the different personalities and ages.
Clean and organised living spaces
We stayed in one of the caravans and were really impressed with the cleanliness and its spaciousness. Our caravan had three bedrooms which had a double room and two twin rooms. Lots of hanging space for clothing and two bathrooms, one with a shower and one without. The living space was a good size, with a flat screen TV and a remote-controlled fire.
There were four of us staying in the caravan up until the last two days where we had guests bringing the total to two adults and five children. With the outside dining space and layout of the caravan, we all fit in perfectly and the kids adored the playing space outside. The caravans and waterside cabins form a circle, giving parents the perfect viewing platform as all the kids gather to play on the grass in the middle. Really lovely feeling to the resort where kids mingle and play whilst the adults give each other a knowing and appreciative look as they co-watch all the kids.
Great location and value for money
The resort is perfectly located for access to a whole range of activities, beaches, pretty villages and bustling towns. To be honest, the resort offers so much that many families stay put and make the most of not having to drive but get around on foot.
Cornwall boasts some simply stunning beaches and most within a half hour drive away, be sure to pack change for the car parks as they do get very busy.
The staff are knowledgeable, and the main reception has lots of leaflets on what’s on around the area.
Reasonably priced for what you get, prices start for as little as £55 per person depending on how far in advance you book or if you are grabbing a last minute deal. Be sure to keep an eye on their ‘special offers‘ page.
