We sent one of the team to visit the Stanwell House Hotel in Lymington,
written and reviewed by Charlotte Vaughan.
When we were invited to visit Lymington recently, the whole family jumped at the chance, we all needed to escape and sample some fun on the South Coast. Lymington is easily accessible from London and the South East and close to the M27.
Lymington is a small town on the Lymington River on the Solent, in the New Forest area of Hampshire. Lymington is now one of the country’s top yachting and sailing destination towns.
Stanwell House Hotel
Stanwell House Hotel is a beautiful, cosmopolitan and stylish boutique hotel situated in the heart of Lymington, positioned minutes from the quay. You can enjoy Georgian rooms with period features or Garden suites (some of which are dog friendly,) cocktails in Olympian Sir Ben Ainslie's old local, modern tapas at tables carved from the trunk of a single fallen New Forest tree and a secret private dining pavilion in the garden. It is the perfect place for families to explore the wonderful town of Lymington and the nearby New Forest National
And yes whilst quality can often mean a bigger expense, at Stanwell House Hotel
that is not the case; it is very well priced for such amazing quality rooms,
restaurants and service.

We fell in love with the beautiful building, a grand old 18th-century grade two listed building with lots of original features and quirky design features.
When we arrived we were shown to one of the family rooms with a bathroom and lounge where the children slept on a pull out sofa bed. The room overlooked the garden which had a lovely summer feel even on a wet Autumn day!
Amazing food & drink
That evening we dined in the newly refurbished wonderful Etain restaurant
and sampled a mixture of seafood, fish and meat. They were so good at
catering for the children; they provided a mini fillet steak and chips with home-
made béarnaise sauce for the kids! We then went into the Drydock bar which
is the perfect place to unwind over a gin and tonic and hear all the local stories
about Ben Ainslie. The bar boasts over 25 different gins to choose from including a local Lymington gin. We certainly sampled quite a few but thank goodness we didn’t sample them all!
We then got out all the board games on offer and played Monopoly in the cosy lounge area with the fire roaring and moved from gin to hot chocolate, what a lovely cosy experience!
The Staff throughout the hotel and restaurant were so warm and friendly and gave us so many good ideas for exploring the local area. They told us about the crabbing down at the Quay which is a brilliant activity for the whole family.
One of our days in Lymington was filled with bright sunshine and beautiful blue
sky, so we ventured down to the Quay for some good old fashioned fun in the
form of catching crabs! Crabbing is a great activity to while away the hours
with the whole family. All you need is a crabbing line, some bait (we found raw
bacon works the best), a bucket and perhaps a net, and off you go! Popular
local crabbing locations include Lymington Town Quay which is a five minute walk from the hotel.
There are also lots of visitor attractions for families nearby including Bournemouth Beach, Paultons Park and the Beaulieu Motor Museum making Lymington a great place to stay for a family holiday.
The hotel is very dog-friendly and the rooms with a hardwood floor can accommodate dogs.
We cannot recommend the Stanwell House Hotel enough; it really is the perfect place to stay as a family while experiencing high quality food and service.
