These familiar family favourite meals are great when you’re rushed off your feet but want to keep eating well. They include lots of local grown vegetables, wholegrain carbs to keep everyone fuller (helps stop snacking) for longer and good quality proteins like lean mince steak.
This week’s family meal planner includes quick spaghetti bolognese, chicken fajita wraps, chicken and prawn laksa, store cupboard pizza and breaded fillet fish fingers. The approximate cost is just £23.47 for a family of four! (price correct at time of publication – supermarket prices and offers may vary – exclusive of store cupboard staples). Links in our recipes will show you where to get the best deal.
Quick spaghetti bolognese: What could be easier than swapping white spaghetti for brown? Approx price: £2.75 or 69p per portion.
Chicken fajita wraps with spicy potato wedges and coleslaw: Succulent chicken pieces coated in spicy seasoning. Coleslaw is both a winter and summer dish, low fat mayonnaise is best or alternatively a vinaigrette dressing is tasty. Approx price: £5.75 or £1.44 per portion.
Chicken and prawn laksa: This recipe is great if you have raw turkey slices to use up instead of the chicken. Easy substitute. Approx price: £7.11 or £1.77 per portion.
Store cupboard pizza: This pizza is very simple using a scone base. Use whole grain brown flour or if you’re in a hurry, brown wraps serve as a really crispy healthy base. Approx price: £5.04 or £1.26 per portion.
All the meals included in our weekly family meal planners are child-friendly and provide nutrients from each of the food groups (proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals).
