An Incredible Stay at the Martinhal Resort in Western Algarve Portugal

Perfect Portugese Paradise For Families At The Martinhal Resort

We travelled to the award winning Martinhal Resort and were lucky enough to visit two luxurious family properties on the Western Algarve in Portugal.

Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel:

“Europe’s finest luxury family resort is located in a stunning position overlooking Martinhal Beach in the protected Natural Park close to Sagres in the Western Algarve, Portugal. Featuring a 37 bedroom five star hotel and a selection of spacious family houses, the essence of the resort is one of understated luxury and genuine hospitality.”

WOW – Martinhal is definitely the best place for families wanting a luxurious and stylish family holiday. First we visited the recently opened “Martinhal Quinta Family Resort”, in the prestigious Quinta do Lago area. It is a beautiful collection of exclusive independently owned luxury villas in the most stunning setting.

We stayed in a fantastic 4 bedroom villa with a private garden and pool area – it was so spacious, light and very tastefully decorated. We felt very lucky to be able to spend some time here relaxing and enjoying some very special family time in the school holidays.

All the villas here have a private garden with a pool area. The great thing about Martinhal Quinta is that they also have fantastic facilities in the resort area that include a great Kids Club:  Raposinhos Kids Club for children 3-8 years old. Other facilities include M Bar and Gelataria, Mercado Deli & Bake, Blue room, a  game room with a  play-station and pool table for older children and the stylish Pool Hangout with an outdoor playground that includes a trampoline and water jets.

Livvy our 7 year old loved being in the pool – although it was heated – it was quite fresh in April! But Livvy didn’t mind!

We spent two nights in our beautiful villa and then headed off to the most western tip of the Algarve to the Sagres Resort which is the most perfect Portugese Paradise. Its modernist, luxurious vibe is achieved with crisp and elegant design features and furnishings. Situated amongst the unspoilt surroundings of the protected Costa Vicentina National Park and with a stretch of beautiful sandy beach, there’s an abundance of nature on your doorstep.

It’s clear to see that Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel has been designed with families in mind and combines stylish design, understated luxury, child-friendliness and genuine hospitality in a relaxed and effortless manner. Every small detail is thought of in this great resort to cater for children of all ages.

The reason this resort has thought about all the tiny details when it comes to kids of all ages, is because a young family owns the property. The idea was born in 2002 and today Chitra and Roman Stern and their four young kids have their fingerprints all over the resort and hotel. As soon as we pulled up to the lobby of the hotel I knew we were in fabulous hands! We were given a beautiful two bedroom villa to stay in and everything thought of from fresh milk and juice to round tables, no sharp corners for babies!

Our villa also had baby gates, training potties, step stools and even special cups and plates for the little ones. Forget getting excited about a crib and high chair, the Martinhal has a baby concierge!! Yes you have FREE access to bottles, change pads, sterilizers and even gear!

When it came to entertainment there was no shortage of options. The resort has separate childcare options for each age group and plenty of organized group activities for parents, kids and families to participate in.

Other facilities include: tennis courts, saunas, hot tubs and even football games! If relaxing is more up your street there  are lots of swimming pools indoor and outdoor (the main outdoor pool was very warm in April!) and also a wonderful Spa – the Finestera Spa has a fantastic range of treatments all set in tranquil and stylish surroundings. Located in its own secluded grounds, it is free for all guests to use and includes a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. We tried one of the family treatments, which means parents and children can enjoy the serene spa surroundings together.

Livvy and I treated ourselves to a Mother and Daughter massage in the spa which was such a calming and very memorable treatment for us both. I even get massages at home now!

Martinhal Spa

The Martinhal Resort has a lot of great restaurant options: from fresh fish and seafood at As Dunas, to delicious steak and hand-cut chips at O Terraço. Fussy eaters will be satisfied by the tasty meals on the baby menu, which is packed with fresh dishes and healthy bites for children. Plus, there is a trampoline in sight of As Dunas so you can finish your meal while the little ones play. At breakfast they offer a buffet spread packed with fresh fruit, pastries, and full English breakfast selection. Extra items like omelettes and pancakes are made to order, so you can tuck into whatever you fancy.

Martinhal M Bar

There were also dedicated staff members to look after children in a separate kids area while the parents enjoyed a meal! This was all free! The children’s food was fantastic let alone the delicious food for the adults and such attention to detail.

The staff at the Martinhal were very friendly and eager to chat and share their love for the area. While we did not venture off that much we did go for a drive through town which is fast becoming a surfer’s paradise.  Sagres is fast becoming one of the best surf spots in Europe, with no less than 22 different south and west-facing beaches within a 30 min drive of the hotel, providing perfect year round surf conditions, so Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel is also a perfect base for surfers.
